Managing Coloring Books

The Kea Coloring Book may contain any number of coloring books. In many instances, just a single coloring book exists, but in others it may make sense to group pages together into multiple coloring books by theme, and to group books together further into sets.

All these possibilities are catered for.

You will normally have been provided with preconfigured set of coloring books. This section is available to help you understand how the catalog is tied together, and how to perform simple maintenance, such as adding a new coloring book, changing the default book, or reordering the pages.

Catalog definition file

The catalog definition file (catalog.xml) is found in the catalog directory. It defines all of the available coloring books, which may in turn be grouped together to multiple levels.

Directory structure

Each coloring book must have its own unique directory on the server, under the catalog directory. Directories should be given an easily identifiable name relating to the coloring book, and can be further grouped into subdirectories where appropriate.

Although it is not mandatory, it is highly recommended that the directory structure closely matches the structure of the catalog definition file .

Contents of a coloring book directory

Each coloring book directory includes all the coloring page files, along with a book.xml file which defines the contents and order of the pages in the coloring book.

Book definition files

Each coloring book has a book definition file (book.xml), which defines the coloring in pages in the book, including details such as the files, names, and soundtracks.

Soundtracks

You can add an audio soundtrack to a coloring book as a whole, or a separate track to each individual page. Full details are available in the Soundtracks article.
